TaskMenu Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 6, 2026
TaskMenu is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app for managing Google Tasks. Your privacy matters; here is how TaskMenu handles your data.
What TaskMenu accesses
TaskMenu connects to Google OAuth and the Google Tasks API so you can sign in and manage your tasks and task lists. These Google services are the only external services the app communicates with.
Where your data is stored
All data stays on your device:
- OAuth tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain, protected by your system's security.
- Task data is fetched from Google on demand and displayed in the app. It is not stored in a separate local database or on TaskMenu-operated servers.
- Due date notifications are optional. If you enable them, macOS may temporarily store notification content locally so reminders can be displayed.
- Diagnostic reports may be saved locally on your Mac using Apple's MetricKit framework. TaskMenu does not upload these reports or send them to the developer.
Data retention and deletion
TaskMenu retains the minimum Google user data needed to provide its functionality:
- OAuth tokens are retained in the macOS Keychain until you sign out of TaskMenu or revoke TaskMenu's access from your Google Account.
- Task and task list data is kept in memory while the app is running so the interface and optional due date notifications can work. TaskMenu does not keep a separate server-side copy of your Google Tasks data.
- When you sign out of TaskMenu, the app deletes its stored OAuth tokens from the macOS Keychain, clears in-memory task data, and removes pending or delivered local notifications created by the app.
- When you delete or modify tasks in TaskMenu, those changes are sent to Google Tasks and reflected in your Google account.
- Local diagnostic reports remain on your Mac and may be removed by deleting TaskMenu's Application Support data.
- Uninstalling TaskMenu does not automatically delete tasks from your Google account. Your tasks remain in Google Tasks until you delete them through TaskMenu, Google Tasks, or another Google client.
- You can stop TaskMenu from accessing your Google data at any time by signing out of the app or revoking access at your Google Account permissions page.
What TaskMenu does NOT do
- No tracking. The app does not track how you use it.
- No personal data collection. TaskMenu does not transmit personal information beyond what is needed to authenticate with Google and sync Google Tasks.
- No uploaded diagnostics. Local diagnostic reports are not uploaded to TaskMenu-operated servers or sent to third-party analytics services.
- No third-party analytics services. The app only communicates with Google services directly for sign-in and Google Tasks sync.
- No ads. There are no advertisements in TaskMenu.
Google OAuth
TaskMenu uses Google's OAuth 2.0 to sign you in. During sign-in, Google may show you what data TaskMenu is requesting access to. You can revoke TaskMenu's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
